Phew – the super 8 film I ordered from eBay arrived today. I was beginning to get a bit twitchy. Must get this digitised before I can begin to experiment and play with both physical and digital versions, creating assemblages of matter and discursive practice, undoing the past and unsettling identity. I have no idea what is on it – just that eBay claimed it was made in 1971, the year I was born. I may be able to use the images, I may not. I may only be able to use the object. I don’t know….

Excited anticipation.

Or terror! 😬🙃

As Hitchcock said (maybe) the anticipation of terror, is suspense…

Well, I’m glad it’s triggered a possible reference to Hitchcock – very apt since my work is at its core – not that sophisticated as it is simply looking at how those old movies shaped me and how I, in turn, now reconfigure them and feed into the ever-lively meaning machine of existence.

Can’t wait to see what (hopefully) is on this. It’s the year my eldest daughter was born too.

Well, it could be entirely useless for all I know but part of my inquiry I guess is asking questions about what gets included and what get’s left out and how those decisions come to pass. So either way, it will hopefully be a useful exercise. (Best year btw!)
